Discover Bury

Hills, heritage and a proper market town

Sat in the heart of Walmersley, the Hark to Dandler is your ideal base for exploring everything Bury has to offer. With plenty of parking on site, it’s easy to drop in before or after a day out.

Whether you’re heading up Holcombe Hill for the view from Peel Tower, walking the trails at Burrs Country Park, or jumping aboard the East Lancashire Railway for a steam-hauled adventure, you’re never far from something worth doing. And when you’re ready to swap the great outdoors for a great pint, we’ll be here waiting.

Local Area

Peel Tower & Holcombe Hill

One of the most iconic landmarks in the North West. Climb 148 steps to the top of Peel Tower (built in 1852 in tribute to Sir Robert Peel) and you’re rewarded with sweeping views over Manchester, Cheshire and beyond. A proper walk. A proper view. Pop into the Dandler afterwards and make a proper afternoon of it.

East Lancashire Railway

All aboard. The East Lancashire Railway runs steam and diesel-hauled heritage trains through some stunning Lancashire countryside. Whether you’re a transport enthusiast or just fancy something a little different, it’s a brilliant day out for all ages. Bury is the southern terminus, so you’re in the perfect spot to start the journey and finish the day with a pint at the Dandler.

Burrs Country Park

A triumph of regeneration. Once an industrial site, Burrs Country Park is now a beautiful stretch of greenery along the River Irwell, with walking trails, mountain bike routes and the Irwell Sculpture Trail weaving through it all. Dogs welcome, muddy boots expected. Plenty of parking at the Dandler when you’re done.
